Bodegas Viña Romana S.L.
Presentation
With of hope of not seeing any more vineyards either ripped up or abandoned and also the desire to see our wines widely recognized for their quality, we arrived in the Arribes del Duero, the land of our ancestors, with a plan to take over this cellar, surrounding ourselves with an expert team, specialized in the production of quality wine. This is how our exciting adventure got started. Following an huge effort and work well-done by everyone, including those in the vineyards, our team and the “Consejo Regulador” (governing body of the local Denominación de Origen), the wines which we are about to present to you were born, with the intention that you should try them and enjoy them in the best company.
Arribes del Duero In the western part of the provinces of Zamora and Salamanca, there where the Duero and Águeda form the frontier between Spain and Portugal and where they have created deep and extensive river canyons of nearly one hundred kilometres, this is where the Arribes region is found.
Vineyards and cellar
Our region is one of the oldest wine regions of the peninsula, dating back to Roman times.
Most of the vines that we have are pre-phylloxera, with an average age of 105 years. They are mainly made up of small parcels, most of them in terraces which look
out over the river Duero, there where practically the only way of getting to them is with a horse or a mule, and all of them, without exception, are situated within the
magnificent and exceptional surroundings of the Natural Park of the Arribes del Duero.
