Bodegas Mocén is a family-owned estate created by José Luis Ruiz Solaguren, successful businessman who made his career in gastronomy to further focused on wine, his great passion. The winery, located in the village of Rueda, is the epicenter of the most popular white wine region of Spain: the D.O. Rueda A single-estate “Finca Valverde was planted in 1988 on semi-arid poor soils at 730m. altitude, providing conditions for grapes with high natural acidity and intense aromatics. Updated with modern technology but based on family values, Bodegas Mocén has developed a constant innovation without forgetting the wisdom of the older generations. In fact, the winery was built above historical wine cellars of XV century symbolizing the commitment with the past. In the late 80's, our oenologist José Andrés started to explore new ways of winemaking with the local variety VERDEJO. By using stainless steel tanks and inert gases during fermentation he brought freshness and purity of fruit over the old-fashioned sherry-like style that was the norm before. This new lively and easy-to-drink style of Verdejo was the cornerstone to the successful era of modern Rueda wines.
