Chateau d'Orschwihr

The first recorded mention of the Château d'Orschwihr dates back to 1049, Pope Leon IX of Eguisheim was a guest when he consecrated the church of the neighboring village.
The Habsburg acquired the Château at the end of the XIIIth century and sold it to the Bishop of Strasbourg in 1513, who transmitted it to the local nobility but retained the vineyards. During the French Revolution the Château was seized and sold.
My family acquired the Château in 1854 but in 1934 a fire destroyed the Château nearly entirely. It was partially rebuilt in 1936. Further constructions and reconstructions were carried out in 1973, 1987 and 2001 to expand the original winery as the vineyard grew.
The vineyard is nowadays 25 ha large with 3 "lieux dits" (Bollenberg, Enchenberg and Hueben) and 5 "Grands Crus" (Kessler, Kitterlé, Pfingstberg, Rangen and Zinnkoepflé).
We are producing high quality wines specially designed to have a long aging capability so don’t be surprise to find some old vintages in our winery !
