SCACCIADIAVOLI

Scacciadiavoli is one of the oldest winery in the area of Montefalco. The name Scacciadiavoli can be traced back to an episode of exorcism of the 14th century, reported by Johannes de Rupescissa in the Treaty on the Quintessence.
The story tells about a young woman possessed by the devil, to which an exorcist give her drink the local red wine, succeeding in drive out the devil.

The event gave its name to the village, still exists, appropriately called Scacciadiavoli. In the mid-nineteenth century, Prince Ugo Boncompagni Ludovisi built the winery, which is still functional and rational; From that moment, given the monumental size of the building, the site is called Località Cantinone (large cellar).

At the moment , the company owns 130 hectares, 41 of which are vineyards. The rest is made up of seasonal crops. The vineyards occupy different sides of the hill in Montefalco, Gualdo Cattaneo and Giano and the wines produced are typical of the name "Montefalco".
