An ancient house right in the middle of the Camino de Santiago, home to Martín Códax’s project in Cacabelos, Bierzo. Since 2003 the Bodegas Martín Códax team focused on this D.O. working on the Mencía vineyards located in Corullón, Valtuille, Hornija and Otero. Crops on soils with slaty substrate leaving its mark on wines which manifest the varietal characteristics. Controlling valley, slopes and high-altitude vineyards in the mountains, where we find older vines which become more long-lasting and allow us to make fresher Mencía wines and rosés such as our Cuatro Pasos Rosé up to extremely complex wines like Martín sarmiento which is made from centenary vines in the higher mountains.
