Tenute Lu Spada is an organic boutique winery located on the outskirt of Brindisi, a city whom territory is historically considered to be “the land of wine”. Our mission is to revive the terroir ancient tradition by retrieving the native grape varieties and old bush trained wines while preserving the surrounding biodiversity The Estate is composed of two allotments for a total of 29 hectares. The Negroamaro variety is the most extended, over six hectares (aged over 50 years) plus 15 hectares dedicated to younger vineyards. We also cultivate Malvasia Nera di Brindisi, Susumaniello, Minutolo, Vermentino and Primitivo. The limestone and clay-rich soils, the favorable climate conditions, the proximity to the sea and to the protected area of the Cillarese lake, contribute to the high quality grapevines which give birth to our elegant wines, rich in aromas and flavors. Our physical shop and showroom are located in between our vineyards, a few minutes away from the city centre and the BDS International Airport. We welcome our guests for wine tours, tasting events or just to enjoy a glass of wine in these beautiful settings, surrounded by the sound of nature. In Brindisi, the winery tradition is ancient, it originated with the Messapian civilization and continued with Greeks and Romans. Writers as Horace and Pliny the Elder already narrated the wines of Brindisi in 30 b.C. The commercial amphorae manufactured in Brindisi during the Roman Empire testify the noteworthy winemaking past. Our collection is mainly inspired by two pillars: History and Nature. The label Masada takes inspiration from Masada fortress-city located in Judea where archeologists found fragments of amphorae dating from 19 B. C. displaying a Brindisi’s family seal. The name of this wine was Philonianum, as our second historical label. Labels Nyroca, Tuffetto Avocetta and Moriglione are named after protected birds who are wintering and nesting in the Cillarese faunal reserve and lake, right beside our vineyards. Grigiombra and Fuoco Rosa are our brand new wines combininig traditional and innovative production techniques.
