Description
"Fortezza" means "fortress". Indeed, all 100% of Sangiovese grapes from which this wine is made come from a single vineyard immediately below a medieval castle or fortress of Aiola that centuries ago played a strategic role in protecting the roads to the nearby city of Siena.
The vineyard is at 480 m above the sea level, ensuring the grapes get all the sun they need, but retain the freshness and acidity even in the hottest summers.
"Fortezza dell'Aiola" shows its deep ruby red colour in the glass. The wine offers aromas of cherry, blackberry and blueberry, light floral notes followed by delicate tones of spices – cinnamon and vanilla. The palate is full and silky, seducing you with the taste of red and black berries. This is a well-balanced wine with a long aftertaste. You can pair it will all kinds of meat dishes, from shnitzel to lechazo, but it would also go beautifully with a tuna steak or coq au vin.
