Weingut Schmitt Bergtheim

In the heart of Mainfranken lies this winery in Bergtheim that has been in the same family's hands for three generations. It all began when the great-grandparents recieved a third of a hectar vineyards as a wedding present from their parents. Today, over 30 hectars of vineyards are cultivated here for wine, sparkling wine, new sweet wine, and mulled wine. In addition to the vineyards, we have an orchard that is used for creating spirits and alcohol free beverages. The majority of our vineyards reside in water-protection areas in the Mittlemain and Volkacher Mainschleife on shell-limestone soil, and in Steigerwald on gypsum keuper soil. These different locations give the later wines a unique personality and structure that really make them one-of-a-kind.

One of the best things about being a vintner is how close one works with nature. The eagle, the heraldic animal on the traditional family crest, still possesses a deeper symbolical meaning for the family today as it flies far and wide over the vineyards and their home country. Although we remain deeply rooted with our past, we will forever be subject to change. And with each new year, come new challenges that we face in the vineyards, or we bring along new ideas that can come to life in the wine cellar.
Our hard work and dilligence pays itself off and it's wonderful to see it get recognized. For example, we received an EcoStep Wine certificate stating that we fulfill certain standards for our management when it comes to quality, environment, safety and health in the work space, foodsafety, and sustainability.

As a winery, we offer different events that have everything to do with wine either on site at the winery or directly to our customers. Our guests may gladly visit our vineyards, and when they get a tour of our company and take part in a wine tasting, they can discover more fun facts about the history of this family's winery and wine.
