Description
Vintage: The vintage 2017 was full of extreme weather situations. It started with a very long and cold winter, and early budding. Unfortunatly too early and we had trouble with frost in May which reduced the yealds extremly. Afterwards we had a longer period without any rain that was needed in the flowering season. During the summer month there was lots of heavy rain with thunderstorms and hail. What rescued the fruit was a sunny and cool harvest time. Vines: 100 % Chardonnay 15 year old vines Terroir: Dienheimer Tafelstein, Kalkstein
Vinification: harvested by hand September 17th with 24 hours on skins. Fermentation with wild yeast in French oak barrels. 50 % new Barrels and 50 % second and third use. Stirring of the yeast during the winter months. Aging in the barrel for a year till September
Description: an exciting combination of fruit like yellow apple and pear with smoky influences of the barrel like jam or toasted bread.
